Importing Payment Files

This guide walks you through importing a Swedbank XML payment file into Business Central.

Step-by-Step Import

  1. Open the import page -- in Business Central, search for Swedbank XML Import and open it.
  2. Select the XML file -- use the import action to browse for the XML file provided by Swedbank. Select the file and confirm.
  3. Wait for processing -- the system reads the XML content and loads each payment transaction into the import buffer. This typically takes only a few seconds.
  4. Review the buffer records -- once the import is complete, you will see a list of all payment transactions from the file. Each record shows the payment amount, date, sender information, and reference details.

What to Check Before Proceeding

Before creating journal entries, verify the following:

  • Record count -- confirm the number of imported records matches what you expect from the bank file.
  • Amounts -- spot-check a few transactions to ensure amounts imported correctly.
  • Dates -- verify that payment dates fall within the expected period.
  • References -- check that payment references and sender information look complete.

Handling Import Errors

If the import fails or records appear incorrect:

  • File format issues -- ensure the file is a valid Swedbank XML export. Corrupted or incomplete files will not import successfully.
  • Duplicate imports -- if you accidentally import the same file twice, review the buffer for duplicate entries before creating journal lines.
  • Missing data -- if certain fields are blank, check with your bank that the export was complete.

Once you are satisfied with the imported data, proceed to create the payment journal.
